Eligibility: Individuals and families who are homeless.
Specific Services:
47 beds available for single men and women in drop-in shelter; families may also stay in this shelter if family apartments are full. Families staying at drop-in shelter have the first priority for vacancies in the family apartments.
Drop-In center has phones, laundry, and computers for job hunting. Breakfast is offered to those who help clean the facility in the morning. Lunch is served on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A nurse is available on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 AM to 2 PM.
Assistance with food, housing, employment, medical care, and other basic needs available.

LSS-Bethany Crisis Shelter

Eligibility: Children who are referred to the shelter by county social service providers, the court system or area law enforcement.
Specific Services:
Supervised Daily Living stressing social and independent living skills.
Homebound Education targeted to meet the academic needs of children who are either unable to function appropriately in a mainstream school environment or who are from an area outside the local school district.
Recreational programming designed to expose the children to various individual and group activities, ranging from arts and crafts to team sports and community cultural events.
Weekly discussion groups designed to introduce topics of information or concern in a confidential and caring manner.
Individual counseling available as needed or requested, focusing on conflict resolution and problem-solving.
Transportation to and from appointments for duration of stay.

Provides a short term safe place for youth.
Housing, counseling, educational and referral services for self-referred, runaway or homeless youth.

Northwood Children’s Home

Eligibility: Youth between the ages of 12 and 17 may reside at the Honors Home for Boys or Girls. Inquiries for admissions into the program by a physician, mental health professional, county social worker, hospital, or parents are welcome.
Specific Services: Northwood Children’s Home provides five of the following services:
Residential Treatment Programs – Northwood Children's Services has two 24-hour residential treatment facilities that provide children with a safe, well-maintained living environment.
Honors Home for Boys & Honors Home for Girls - The Honors Home for Boys and the Honors Home for Girls provides individualized treatment for youth on a short-term or longer term basis. This program emphasizes learning independent living skills and vocational work experiences.
Day Treatment Services - Intensive Day Treatment serves children who need more intense services than public schools provide, yet do not need out-of-home, 24-hour care.
Diagnostic & Assessment Center - The Diagnostic and Assessment Center provides comprehensive evaluations, diagnoses, and family assessment for children referred to the program.
Therapeutic Foster Care Program - Therapeutic Foster Care is a unique, caring, and individualized program for young people whose special needs cannot be met in their own families, but who do not require the care of a residential treatment center.

Age: The Residential Treatment Center serves male and female youth ages 12 to 18.
Eligibility:
Those admitted exhibit behavioral, delinquent and conduct problems in the home, school and community, have the capacity to relate to peers and function above the 80 IQ range.
Due to the work and recreational activities, youth must be physically able to participate in programming.
The ability to speak and comprehend English is essential.
Specific Services:
Provides prevention, intervention and rehabilitation services to youth and their families in the upper Midwest.
Woodland Hills uses peer empowerment and strength-based principles that empower young people to teach each other pro-social values and skills.
Neighborhood Youth Services is a free, voluntary program aimed at strengthening families and preventing delinquency. NYS serves youth ages 6-17 with educational, recreational, community volunteering and cultural activities. From its location in the Washington Center in Duluth's Central Hillside, NYS provides programming to more than 600 children and their families annually.
Intensive Day Treatment is an intervention program for at-risk youth in Duluth and surrounding region. IDT provides an alternative to out-of-home placement by focusing on education, problem solving and asset development in youth in need of help in getting along in the community. It is located at Woodland Hills Academy and serves 90 students from the region each year.
Chisholm House is a residential program for students ages 12 to 18 from Minnesota and surrounding states. It provides an opportunity for youth to fulfill community service and restitution obligations as a consequence for their poor decisions that impacted the community. In response to the need for flexible sentencing, we can accommodate stays varying from 14 to 120 days. Chisholm House annually serves between 250 and 300 children.
Residential Treatment offers an open-ended service to youth ages 12-18 from Minnesota as well as youth from all over the country. Students in this program have a history of behavior problems and multiple out-of-home placements before they are court-ordered to the program. Residential Treatment is comprised of five groups totaling 66 students, most of whom stay an average of nine months. A full day of educational services, service learning, work and recreational activities are included.
Community Transition teaches independent living skills to young men ages 16-20 as they prepare to transition back into the community. This program offers assistance with employment, higher education, and supportive services. Our Community Transition residents live in an apartment on the main campus, and the program's capacity currently is six.

Hours: EAST: Wed & Fri 10 AM to 1:45 PM. Also, Mon 3:30-6:30 PM for working families having financial difficulties. Working families can also make an appointment if not available during these hours. WEST: Tues & Thurs 10 AM to 1:30 PM.
Eligibility: Sign a form saying you have no food and no money to buy food. At the second visit, identification is required for each household member. After two or three visits, assigned a food coordinator to go over situation.
Specific Services: Drop-in food shelf.
