Harbor City International School was born out of the idea that in the 21st century, high school students need a more dynamic perspective of the world. We believe that a strong secondary school design is based upon intellectual rigor, high academic standards, and a multicultural perspective. This design, delivered in a small academic setting, provides a solid foundation where students can grow. Our values of compassionate informed citizenry, life-long learning, critical thinking, and respect for cultural and environmental diversity, help deepen the individual’s understanding of self and the world in which they live. Our small school size, class size, and low student to teacher ratio enable students to become a vital part of a small community. HCIS students feel an awareness of belonging and mattering, lending them a greater sense of purpose within their world community.

HCIS serves students in grades 9-12 from throughout the greater Duluth region. We are committed to remaining small, and our enrollment is capped at just over 200.
